Meet Our Feather-meisters
Fins up, y'all! I'm Maggie Mac Parrot Head and I'll be
turning 13 this Summer! Those super-cool green feathers you see on Mom's
dreamcatchers &
jewelry are mine.

The bright turquoise blue & yellow-gold feathers
belong to my big brother, Gabby. Man is he huge!! His
tail feathers are so long my mom once used them to decorate a
traditional Aztec head dress
replica she made for a man in North Carolina. He wears it to dance at Pow
Wows and travels the country teaching children about the Mexican Indians.
At the first place he lived, Gabby was yelled at for
"being loud" and was teased by the three children in the
household
so he was real skittish and shy when he first came to live with us. But now-a-days, when
the pizza guy delivers our food, he's decided it's fun to
yell, "Pizza!" at him real loud 'cuz
it freaks him out so bad! I think it's pretty funny too!

Can You Save a Bird Today?
Due to the high-maintenance very high percentage of the pet birds that
are purchased wind up abused or abandoned and in dire need of good, loving homes.
Unfortunately, with twice that many convenient pet stores and volume
breeders, it's much more likely that an orphaned bird will remain so.
The odds are high his newly-acquired counterpart will likely become unwanted
himself one day considering that many retail establishments are much more
concerned with ensuring the volume of sales than in seeing to the future
welfare of their living charges by making sure potential bird owners are
made fully aware of the many specific physical and emotional needs unique to
these exotic creatures.
Bird Refuge & Rescue Needs Your Help
Feathered Friends Forever Rescue/Refuge, Inc.
is a
privately owned, 501(c) non-profit corporation.
Feathered Friends is the largest rescue in the state of
Georgia as well as one of the largest avian-specific
organizations in the nation. They currently house over 350 birds.
In order to
accommodate a larger number of outside birds, the refuge has
recently relocated to a new 8 acre facility in Harlem,
GA. The new facility has a 30 x 40 x 12 housing center for indoor birds and caretakers quarters. It also offers all new flights
featuring picnic areas for guests with easy access to the birds. In addition to moving
expenses, veterinarian costs have been higher than in previous years. Apx. 1200 lbs of food
per month is now needed to feed the shelter's feathered residents. Many birds are
also in need of private
sponsors. Every single dollar counts towards the
keeping and care of the birds and no donation is too small
to make a difference. Food, cages, toys, and other essentials are
also needed and heartily welcomed as are gift cards to home
improvement outlets like Lowes and Home Depot. Won't you please consider helping a bird
have a better life today? |
