Feather Jewelry

Otomi choker replica with macaw feathersTraditional Otomi Indian neckpiece replica with macaw feathers and cowry shells. The Choker is made from macramé jute. This piece was commissioned for use as a teaching aid and as dance regalia as was the parrot feather Aztec head dress pictured below.

Aztec Head Dress

Shown here is a representation of an Otomi/Aztec Indian-styled head dress. It has very large blue & Gold Macaw and pheasant tail feathers with a beautiful hand crafted Mola featuring  imported from Mexico covering the head band. In the above shot, you can see the layout of feathers before being permanently attached to back of head band.

The overall height measured an impressive 24 inches!

Sentiment and Symbolism

personal healing dreamcatcher from muscadine vine with wedding rings & quartz arrowheadThis one is my personal dreamcatcher; one of the first  I ever made.  It has a muscadine vine hoop bent into a teardrop shape along with a snow-white quartz arrowhead I found unbroken and in pristine condition -- pretty rare for something that's centuries old.  I wander whenever I need to mull things over and this artifact, like many of the others I've found, wouldn't reveal itself until after my mind was made up.  As if to say, "Okay, here's your sign. Now go make it happen."  It is symbolic of the Grace that has touched my life as a result of those decisions.

To remind me of how I got to the here and now, I added 3 gold wedding bands from my three marriages, all ended now -two by choice, one stolen by cancer. personalized dream catcher - vine with wedding rings, flamingo feathers and quartz arrowheadEach of the *feathers holds a special significance as well.  At the right and left sides, representing my Parrot Head loyalties, are actual Pink Flamingo feathers (how cool is that??) which were gifted to me by one of my "adopted" children and the two center feathers were found and put aside especially for me by another very special lady in my life. The rust-colored feather is from a *red-tailed hawk, the other, a blue heron.

* Due to strict state & federal regulations prohibiting the sale of wild bird feathers, I do not use feathers like these on dreamcatchers I sell.  If you have feathers you would like to have incorporated into a custom dreamcatcher, you can send them to me and I'll gladly bead and attach them to your personalized dreamcatcher.  details...
