 Dear Mr. Jimmy,
My name's Maggie and I'm a 12 year old
Severe macaw. My Mama adopted me from a local pet
store when I was just four months old. One of the
reasons she chose a parrot for a pet was because she was
such a huge fan
of yours. I got a really good home but
some of the friends I left behind weren't as lucky.
Right after I went to live with my new family, the pet store
was sold to a new owner and all new people went to work
there. No one remembered to teach the families that
adopted them how to take care of them. Or that tropical birds like
us need
extra-special care and attention. It made me
sad to hear that some of them got lost or hurt and some
didn't live to see their very first birthdays.
Some of them were brought
to a
parrot
rescue & refuge in Harlem, GA where they now live with
hundreds of other homeless parrots that started out the
same way.
Since you know lots of "Parrot Heads", could you please help us
stress to people the necessity of learning how to take care of a
tropical bird before making the commitment to bring one home so we
can save other parrots from the same fate?
Your Friend,
Maggie

Jimmy Buffett (jim'-e buf'-it) n -
accomplished musician, prolific songwriter, Best-Selling author; husband,
father, patriarch of Parrot Heads; Jimmy Buffett is a 21st century troubadour
whose trademark trop-rock musical style & insightfully delightful song
lyrics strike a primal chord with a joyful
"call-of-the-wild" to the workaday weary who are drawn by their wry yet sublimely
profound truth. Maybe it's all too simple for the big brains
to figure it out. What if the Hokey Pokey is really what it's all about??

Parrot Head (par' et heed) n -
a Jimmy Buffett fan, one
who answers
the Call of Bubba. The word "parrothead" was coined by
Timothy B Schmidt of Eagles' fame who toured with Buffett a number
of years ago. During a performance in Cincinnati with Jimmy & The
Coral Reefer Band, noting the colorful spectacle made by a huge sea
of die-hard fans, dressed for the occasion in Hawaiian prints and
grass skirts, fruited finery, feathered headdresses, inflatable
critters, a bemused Schmidt, remarked that, "They look [ed] like
Dead Heads in tropical suits.....like parrot heads!" and the
fans of Jimmy Buffett have been known as
Parrot Heads ever since. A more fitting
title for this
gregarious group of die hard fans
would be hard to imagine!!
